Rest and Renewal

[x_share title=”Share this Post” facebook=”true” twitter=”true” google_plus=”true” linkedin=”true” pinterest=”true” email=”true”]What is your weekly calendar like? If your schedule does not already include regular spiritual retreat, then what source will satisfy your soul? It’s not a question of stamina. Nor is it a question of need. We might think ourselves immune to the temptations of drinking from a toilet or from eating roadkill. However, given four days of dehydration and hunger, we will quickly mend our source of nourishment. Our spiritual appetite is no different.

I realize these examples might seem extreme. So imagine instead a person who only consume french fries, ketchup and Dr. Pepper. How long before we see change? If the individual branches out to chili dogs and Gatorade he might think he is now eating healthy. By degree he might be right. But in reality, nourishment is absent. If this pattern continues, he will create long-term consequences to his health and the people in his life.

We must feasting on God’s word. Our souls are hungry, and if we do not consume Grace, we will dine elsewhere.
